Matthew Kocel: Throat Singer/Sound Healer
|
A facilitator of healing sound journeys since 1997, Matthew shares his unique gift
of holding sacred space for groups and transmitting healing energy through his voice.
He is also a member of the One Voice Harmonic Choir - an overtone chanting group based
in Vancouver, BC. Samples of their music can be heard at www.healingvoices.net.
Performing with rock & fusion bands in the 80's and 90"s as a bass player and vocalist,
Matthew's perception of sound was radically altered in 1989 when for the first time he
heard a recording of Tibetan monks. As his spiritual path led him to delve into meditation
and chanting, Matthew became aware of harmonics (audible secondary notes) popping up when
he slowed down pronunciation of the sacred words in various mantras. In 2000 he acquired
the ability to create overtones in the Tibetan and Tuvan style, making two, three, or more
notes simultaneously with his voice. This gives the sound a holographic quality, seeming
to surround the listener in visionary soundscapes. Matthew is also a Qigong instructor,
energetic body worker and Applied Tensegrity massage therapist.
